Following a road rage incident on Saturday in Highland, California, police reported that two drivers shot each other to death.
It was shortly before 8 p.m. when deputies went to reports of gunfire, according to a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. When they arrived at the scene, they found two people who had sustained gunshot wounds. They transported them to a hospital and declared them deceased.
“This is an excellent illustration of how quickly things can go awry.”
Driving fury following a hit-and-run, according to investigators, is what caused the two fatalities.
Authorities report that 37-year-old Aaron Harris and 38-year-old motorbike rider Jonathan McConnell collided on the 215 freeway. Harris followed McConnell as he drove away from him while he was dividing lanes.
In Harris’s vehicle were his two small children, aged two and five.
McConnell encountered a number of individuals he recognized in front of Joy’s Lounge after riding his motorcycle off the interstate and into a business park parking lot.
Harris approached McConnell and shot him, yelling threats at him. McConnell shot Harris as well.
The police reported that the youngsters were uninjured, but a bystander sustained a gunshot wound to the hand during the exchange.
Mara Rodriguez, a sheriff’s department spokesman, stated, “It could have been so unbelievably simple, but tragically, we have two people who lost their lives instead.”
She went on, “This is a perfect illustration of how things can go so wrong so quickly, but there’s so much traffic out there and so many things going on these days.”
In terms of total surface area, San Bernardino is the biggest county in the contiguous United States.
