Avengers Assemble for Cringe as Kamala Campaign Ad Backfires

Avengers Assemble for Cringe as Kamala Campaign Ad Backfires

Go ahead and turn on your shower. Seriously, you’ll want it hot and ready to wash off the ‘ick’ after you get done reading this article. So, here we go again with Hollywood’s elite gathering together to make yet another painfully awkward, cringe-worthy plea for Kamala Harris. This time, it’s the “Avengers” cast — yes, the same group who thinks playing superheroes in a movie somehow makes them political experts. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and a few others dusted off their spandex to “assemble” in an ad encouraging people to vote for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.

The ad, which was posted on Ruffalo’s X account, is full of forced “Avengers” references and delivered with all the subtlety of a hammer. Ruffalo wrote, “We’re back. Let’s #AssembleForDemocracy. In the #ElectionEndgame, every vote counts.” Maybe Ruffalo’s forgetting that Kamala Harris, after nearly four years in office, has had plenty of “endgame” moments herself, and none of them have exactly saved the day. But, apparently, the Hollywood crowd thinks a dose of “Avengers” nostalgia will fix that right up.

The actors went on to brainstorm catchphrases for Harris. Chris Evans suggested, “I can do this all day”—a line better suited to a superhero saving the world than a VP who seems to fumble through every public appearance. Don Cheadle chimed in with “Boom! You looking for this?” And in a truly ironic twist, someone proposed, “I’m down with democracy,” with Cheadle joking about “tearing down democracy” before trying to clean it up by saying, “I’m Kamala Harris, and I am down with democracy.” At this point, you have to wonder if anyone in that group realized just how ridiculous they sounded.

Naturally, the internet lit up with laughter. Critics mocked the ad’s tone-deaf messaging and its weird mix of humor and desperation. People aren’t buying that this Hollywood crew knows or even cares about what everyday Americans are facing. The ad was meant to be lighthearted, but all it did was remind everyone just how out of touch this crowd really is. Ted Cruz hit on the group’s all-too-candid “tearing down democracy” quote. Talk about doing Trump’s work for him!

Remember, these are the same stars who, back in 2016, lined up to tear down Donald Trump with all sorts of dramatic statements. Don Cheadle even asked voters if they really wanted to elect a “racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society.” But in 2024, their villain is a bit different—they’re scrambling to defend a VP whose poll numbers are plummeting and whose record is, well, lacking.

In the end, the “Avengers” cast tried to swoop in and save Kamala Harris’s floundering campaign with a corny endorsement video, but it mostly highlighted how out of touch Hollywood is with real Americans. This cringey performance was packed with superhero catchphrases and little substance, reminding everyone why actors should stick to movies. Instead of rallying support, the ad drew mockery and showed how Harris and her celebrity backers are the last people to turn to when it comes to saving America.
