Biden Supporters Are Evaporating On All Fronts

As he gets ready to start his reelection campaign in 2024, President Biden is dealing with declining public approval ratings in a variety of important areas.

Only 33% of American people, according to a survey issued this week, think Biden is doing a decent job managing the economy, and only 24% think things are going well.

The survey was conducted by the AP NORC Institute for Public Affairs Research, which also provided the low approval ratings.

They emerged before Biden’s early return from a trip to Hiroshima, Japan, for the yearly G7 conference, when the president put Russia’s invasion of Ukraine front and center instead of the domestic concerns that were quietly dividing people at home.

According to Breitbart News, some people even believe that 80-year-old Joe Biden should be impeached because of the way he has handled his duties as president.

Even before he stands up to deliver a single statement asking American voters to support him in his bid to win back the White House, the findings, according to the AP, reveal Biden is up against severe headwinds. The source reports:

“In a period of rising inflation, a challenging housing market, and worries about a possible U.S. government debt default, public support of Biden’s management of the economy remains low. Only 31% of Americans say they approve of the president’s handling of those contentious topics, which adds to the pessimistic tone of public opinion toward Biden’s initiatives on immigration and gun regulation.”

“40% of people say they approve of how Biden is carrying out his duties generally, which is about where it has been for much of the last 18 months.”

Even among Dems., Biden underperforms on the economy: 61 percent of them think well of him on the subject, compared to 75 percent who think well of him overall.

Democrats continue to be more inclined than Republicans to think the nation is moving in the right way (36% vs. 7%) or to assess the economy as excellent (41% vs. 7%) while feeling less than enthused about the economy under Biden’s watch.

As the deadline for defaulting in June approaches, Biden will pick up the contentious debt limit talks with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this week. This will be another crucial test for his administration.

To set up the meeting, McCarthy said he talked with the president this week.

McCarthy tweeted, “Just got off a call with the President while he is out of the country. My stance has not changed. Washington cannot keep spending money that we don’t have at the expense of our kids and grandkids. He and I are going to meet in person to continue our discussions tomorrow.”

The probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is intended to be representative of the American population, was used to choose a sample for the 1,680 individuals in the Associated Press-NORC survey, which was conducted May 11–15. For all respondents, the margin of sampling error is +/- 3.4 percentage points.
