Activist leaders have been speaking out to oppose a Michigan ballot initiative that would enable felons to vote while incarcerated.
Proposal 2, led by the far-left group “Promote the Vote,” would modify the Michigan state constitution to make federally mandated voter ID illegal, allow individual interests to buy critical electoral infrastructure, decimate signature verification requirements, and allow unlimited ballot collecting with no accountability. The proposal’s most heinous component is permitting convicted murderers, rapists, as well as other offenders to vote from behind bars.
“Everyone I talk to is astonished to learn that Proposal 2 would make it easier for convicts to vote,” Casey Armitage, chairwoman of the Republican Committee for the 9th Congressional District, told the Detroit News Wire.
“We don’t want that to happen in our state. Michiganders believe in upholding the law rather than altering it so that criminals can choose who leads us at the state, municipal, and federal levels.”
“Proposal 2 is a direct assault on Michigan values. We don’t want to make voting easier for criminals. Michiganders desire election integrity and trust in our elections restored, and Proposal 2 does not provide that,” stated Patrice Johnson, Chair of Pure Integrity for MI Elections (PIME).
“We reject this idea because it makes it far easier for convicts to vote and makes it more difficult for Michiganders to trust our elections,” Moms for Liberty Michigan county chair Katie MacFarland said.
The phrase in Proposal 2 would permit felons to vote while incarcerated.
Proposal 2’s language, according to Michigan Supreme Court Justice Brian Zahra, was crafted to undermine the authority of the legislature and would insert confusing and conflicting language into the Michigan state constitution.
“Article 2, Section 1 expressly recognizes that the one who is qualified to be an elected official in Michigan can be restricted by other constitutional provisions,” Zahra said. “Article 2, Section 2 expressly gives the Legislature permissive power to implement statutes imposing such restrictions as to mentally incompetent or imprisoned individuals.”
Democrats are putting systems in place to guarantee that they may cheat in elections with little retribution for victims of corruption after the fact. If Proposal 2 passes, Michigan will most likely become the East’s California.
