The Democrat’s woke experiment is coming unglued and off the rails.
According to Axios, some top Democrats are sounding the warning alarm that progressives are pushing voters away by being too “woke,” and “sensitive.”
Despite the rise of very liberal progressives like Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) — the latter of whom almost won the DNC presidential nomination of 2016 and 2020 — Dem voters are increasingly parting with the far-left’s extreme politics.
“These Democrats warn that if liberals jam politically correct words or new agendas at voters, they risk continuing the cultural wars — and helping Trump-like candidates,”,., Axios said. “Top Democrats say that they are very aware of these dangers.”
The rise of Eric Adams, who will possibly become the next mayor of NY City, is a good example of normal Democratic voters refusing the far-left. Adams, a former NY Police captain, is moderate according to most news stories, and, being a former cop, rejects anti-police agenda such as “defund the police.”
Adams’ views have deeply resonated with Hispanic and black voters in NY City.
As Adams’ win in the NY City mayoral DNC primary showed, mainstream DNC voters will keep rejecting far-left politics. That means, if Democrats run on an extreme platform, they will potentially face losing handily to Republicans.
Axios reports:
“Swing-district leaders tell Axios’ Margaret Talev that the party might suffer huge losses in next year’s midterms if Dems campaign as though Senator Elizabeth Warren is president.”
“One former aide in the Senate said they will lose their majority if Democrats use extreme wokeness.”
Some Democrats understand this issue.
During an after-election conference call last Nov., Congressmember Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), a moderate, ripped into the far-left agenda, blaming the progressives for Democrats almost losing their control of the House.
“We must commit to not repeating the words ‘defund the police’ ever again,” she said. “We must also never use the word socialism again.”
“If we do this again we will get f***ing ripped apart in 2022,” Spanberger said.
This is of course the Democrats’ public image. It has nothing to do with what they will actually do once in office.
