Pam Bondi’s confirmation hearing to lead the Department of Justice turned into a classic display of Democratic hand-wringing and fear-mongering. The former Florida attorney general faced a barrage of questions from Senate Democrats, who were more interested in rehashing talking points about Kash Patel—President-elect Trump’s pick to lead the FBI—than actually evaluating Bondi’s credentials.
Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., led the charge, zeroing in on Patel’s past comments about potentially closing FBI headquarters and his so-called “enemies list.” Blumenthal demanded that Bondi disavow Patel’s remarks, clearly hoping for a soundbite to feed the left’s latest round of Trump hysteria. Bondi, however, wasn’t having it.
“Excuse me,” she asserted when Blumenthal tried to cut her off mid-response. “What I do know is Mr. Patel was a career prosecutor, a career public defender, and has great experience within the intelligence community.” She reminded the panel that Patel’s experience, not media distortions, should be the focus. Bondi also vowed that if confirmed, she would ensure the FBI and DOJ operate by the law. “If I am the attorney general of the United States of America, and I don’t believe he would do anything otherwise,” she said firmly.
Of course, Blumenthal wasn’t satisfied, complaining that Bondi didn’t outright denounce Patel’s alleged remarks. This kind of grandstanding is par for the course for Democrats, who seem to think their job is to score points with their base rather than seriously vet nominees.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., joined the fray, grilling Bondi about Patel’s so-called “enemies list” mentioned in his book, Government Gangsters. Bondi again stood her ground, defending Patel’s qualifications and making it clear there would be no “enemies list” at the DOJ under her leadership.
What’s truly chilling isn’t Patel’s straightforward critique of Washington’s entrenched bureaucracy but the Democrats’ obsession with protecting their deep-state cronies. Bondi’s calm and measured responses showcased the kind of leadership the DOJ desperately needs after years of politically motivated witch hunts and selective enforcement.
The Democrats’ antics highlight why President-elect Trump’s picks are exactly what this country needs—leaders who will prioritize law and order over the left’s endless political theater. While the left cries foul over “enemies lists,” the real enemy is the rot within our institutions, and Bondi’s DOJ will be a much-needed disinfectant.
