Florida isn’t just fighting hurricanes this season—it’s fighting blatant political discrimination from the Biden administration’s FEMA. In a bombshell lawsuit, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is going after FEMA and its director, Deanne Criswell, for allegedly targeting Trump supporters. According to the lawsuit, whistleblowers revealed that FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington instructed relief workers to “avoid homes advertising Trump” while assessing hurricane damage in Lake Placid, Florida.
You read that right: homes with Trump signs or flags were reportedly skipped over for federal aid after Hurricane Milton, leaving conservative Floridians to fend for themselves in the aftermath of devastation. Moody didn’t mince words, declaring, “Hurricane season is not over, and the federal agency in charge of emergency response is embroiled in scandal – caught withholding aid from storm victims in Florida who support President Trump.”
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, accuses Criswell and Washington of conspiring to violate the civil rights of Trump supporters. Even worse, Washington admitted in an interview with Roland Martin that FEMA has a “widespread policy” of avoiding “politically hostile” homes. So much for the Biden administration’s promise to bring unity and fairness back to government.
FEMA, predictably, has tried to downplay the scandal. Criswell called the incident an “isolated event,” but Washington countered by claiming similar practices occurred in North Carolina and other hurricane-affected areas. Sounds like FEMA has a lot of “isolated incidents” on its hands.
Governor Ron DeSantis isn’t letting this slide, either. He backed Moody’s lawsuit and announced an independent investigation by Florida’s Division of Emergency Management. “It’s unacceptable for the federal government to discriminate against Floridians who voted for Trump, and especially egregious in the aftermath of a hurricane,” DeSantis said.
This is the type of political pettiness that perfectly encapsulates why so many Americans are fed up with Democrat-run federal agencies. Instead of providing aid to all Americans in need, FEMA’s leadership appears more concerned with punishing political opponents. Trump supporters in Florida—and across the nation—deserve better than to be treated like second-class citizens simply for exercising their constitutional right to support the president of their choice.
Trump’s re-election has already started exposing the systemic rot within federal agencies, and this lawsuit is a prime example of why a return to America First policies is critical. Accountability, fairness, and the rule of law are long overdue.
