Approximately fourteen days have passed since a potential assassin shot and killed former President Donald Trump during a Butler, Pennsylvania, event. Naturally, because Vice President Kamala Harris is a woman and a black woman, the media is worried that someone will take a shot at her.
An interview with a former member of the Secret Service that Politico published discussed political killings in the United States. Ankush Khardori, the article’s author, talked about the several risks that the Secret Service could have to deal with if Harris is chosen as the nominee.
Because Harris is a woman and a person of color, her identity presents additional security threats, which the agency is undoubtedly considering.
“That’s according to Jeff James, a 22-year veteran of the Secret Service who left in 2018 after serving as an assistant special agent in charge. James was on President George W. Bush’s security detail throughout his tenure at the CIA, and he occasionally assisted in keeping Trump safe when he was in office. James is currently the president of Capitol Security Consultants, a company that provides security training and risk assessment.”
James also discussed how hard it is to assign blame for the Trump assassination attempt given the presently available and unknown information. Even though there was increasing pressure from both parties for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to step down, he isn’t certain she should have.”
We were on the verge of discussing Butler, Pennsylvania, alongside Dallas and Ford’s Theater,” he remarked. “There has to be accountability,” he added.
James stated that when the vice president is on her campaign trail around the nation, Candidate Nominee Operation Section (CNOS) personnel will assist her security team from the Secret Service.
Because Harris is a woman and a person of color, the reporter questioned James about his level of “concern” over threats made against her. In response, the former agent said:
“Over my work, I have observed individuals detesting applicants for various reasons.” Because Mitt Romney was a Mormon, they detested him. They detested Hillary Clinton because she was a woman. They detested George W. Bush because he was born into privilege, an unfair advantage. Because Barack Obama was African American, they detested him.”
“But I’m sure the Secret Service is prepared for the increased danger against Kamala Harris because she’s a woman and a person of color. You’d be shocked, I suppose, at how many people in 2024 still adhere to really narrow-minded beliefs, believing that the president should only be a white Christian guy and that anything else is undesirable. I don’t have access to Vice President Harris’s intelligence, but if past events are any guide, there will undoubtedly be more cause for concern.”
The interviewer asked James if former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s departure was “really deserved.”
“I would have liked to see the FBI investigation’s findings before any heads were chopped,” James stated, adding that “the Secret Service did dispatch local law enforcement to be on that roof.” Additionally, local law officers left the scene.
