This week, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin called Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis a “fascist” and claimed that if Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Peter Buttigieg ran as the 2024 Democratic candidate, they would “obliterate” whomever the Republicans put up, including the governor or former President Donald Trump.
She made those statements during a discussion on possible 2024 presidential candidates.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former White House communications director for the Trump administration, said that while she thinks Joe Biden is not the greatest prospect for Democrats to challenge Donald Trump in 2024, he has shown no indication he will not seek reelection in 2024. This prompted a debate about Biden’s age, younger Democrats who may be stronger candidates, and potential GOP challengers to Trump.
“I hope it isn’t DeathSantis in Florida because I think he’s a fascist,” declared Hostin after Whoopi Goldberg said she was more concerned about who the Republicans choose for 2024 than what the Democrats do.
“I believe he handled COVID horribly, I consider him a fascist and a bigot,” she added, alluding to the nickname conservatives gave to the Republican governor’s handling of the COVID-19 epidemic.
“Those are his best qualities!” exclaimed Joy Behar.
When it comes to Biden’s age, Warren said that people shouldn’t talk about him being too old to seek re-election when Trump, his likely opponent, would be 80 years old.
“If the twice-impeached, discredited president thinks he’s such a young spring chicken at 78 when Joe Biden is 81, I mean,” she continued. “So I don’t appreciate this ageism argument.”
“I believe there are plenty of Democrats that possess a lot of energy and zeal. I admire Gavin Newsom because he’s attractive to look at and I feel he does a wonderful job in California,” Hostin added.
Then she said that Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg would make “fantastic candidates.”
“Do you think they have a chance at winning?” Behar asked.
Hostin responded, “I’d vote for them. I’m hoping this nation is ready for something like that. I believe the brain power alone would demolish Trump or DeathSantis.”
Biden’s numbers have been plummeting in recent weeks, with some Democratic Party insiders expressing worries about his prospective 2024 re-election campaign. While the president claims he intends to run for a second term, Democratic strategist David Axelrod and others have said his age would be “a major concern” in the next presidential election.
