There was a time when America stood united in purpose, where laws were respected, and where the safety of our families came first. But today, in the state of Illinois, that tradition is being abandoned for dangerous political games. The federal government, through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is now being forced to call out state leaders who are ignoring the law and placing American lives in danger.
Just this week, ICE released a shocking list of illegal aliens who have been protected by Illinois’ sanctuary policies. These are not harmless individuals looking for a better life. These are criminals—gang members, kidnappers, rapists, and even murderers—who were arrested, and then released back onto our streets because the state refused to cooperate with federal immigration agents.
Take Gabriel Valle Galvez, for example. He’s a 47-year-old man from Mexico, with a long criminal record including battery and assault. He’s also a known member of the violent Latin Kings gang. Despite ICE asking that he be turned over, Illinois authorities let him go.
There’s also Victor Manuel Gomez-Atilano, who has already been deported before and has weapons charges on his record. Again, released. This disrespect for law and order doesn’t just stop with one or two cases. The list goes on—drug dealers, domestic abusers, and members of the ruthless Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela. These aren’t just names on a list. These are dangerous individuals, and they are walking free in our neighborhoods.
One of the most heartbreaking stories tied to this crisis is the death of Katie Abraham, a young woman from Illinois. She was killed when an illegal alien, Julio Cucul-Bol from Guatemala, caused a deadly car crash. Her friend, Chloe Polzin, died with her. These young women should be alive today. But leaders like Governor J.B. Pritzker have chosen to protect criminal aliens instead of protecting their own citizens.
This is not just a failure of policy. It is a failure of moral responsibility. The leaders of Illinois have chosen to defy federal immigration law. They have created a sanctuary for lawbreakers, not for the law-abiding. And now, ICE has launched Operation Midway Blitz to clean up the mess. This mission is meant to find and detain those who have slipped through the cracks because of these misguided sanctuary policies.
The American people must ask: When did it become acceptable for our leaders to put the safety of criminals ahead of the safety of our children? When did the rule of law become optional?
We are a nation built on laws, borders, and order. We welcome immigrants—but we welcome them through legal doors, not through back alleys. The American dream is not built on chaos. It is built on hard work, faith, and respect for the law.
President Trump has made it clear that under his leadership, immigration will be lawful and secure. But he needs the help of state leaders to make that vision real. When states like Illinois refuse to cooperate, they are not just breaking trust with Washington—they are breaking trust with every parent, every grandparent, and every child who deserves to live in a safe community.
It is time for Illinois to turn away from lawlessness and return to common sense. It is time for families to come first, not criminals. We must support ICE and law enforcement as they do the hard work of keeping our communities safe. And we must reject the soft-on-crime policies that have allowed this danger to grow.
This is not about politics. This is about protecting America. It’s about standing up for what is right, even when it’s hard. If we don’t defend our laws today, we may not have a country to defend tomorrow.
