This week marked the announcement by Israel’s Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, that 10,000 assault weapons will be bought and given to civilian security teams stationed in border villages.
According to Breitbart News, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant directed the distribution of firearms and ammunition to villages along the Gaza border on October 8.
Ben Gvir also stated that he intends to increase the employment of armed citizens by appointing an IDF liaison to collaborate with “local leaders” in the vicinity of the Gaza border.
The Times of Israel now reported that “10,000 weapons are being purchased by Ben Gvir’s ministry to equip civilian security forces, particularly those in communities near Israel’s borders nationwide.”
Additionally, helmets as well as bulletproof vests will be given out.
After hearing that some citizen security teams could defend against Hamas attacks such as the one that happened that evening, the decision was made to give out the weapons and other gear.
This is what Ben Gvir said:
“We’re going to flip the world upside down to protect towns. I have told them to arm the citizen security teams very heavily so that they can help towns and cities. To make sure that towns are always safe, plans are being made to release a Guardian of the Walls 2 ”
Israel’s women have been kidnapped by Hamas, the group has gone door-to-door and murdered Israelis in their houses, killed Israeli motorists in the roadways and on the highways, and done horrible things to Israeli children. An Associated Press report from October 10 said that the number of deaths from Hamas strikes on Israel has “risen to above 1,000.”
A far-right party led by Ben Gvir is often called extreme. His election in 2022 was helped by the fact that people were angry about Israeli Arabs fighting against Israeli Jews. His idea was to have an armed “national guard” to protect people from riots and fear.
As recent as August, Gallant said that Ben Gvir’s idea was bad and called it a “private militia.”
