Some people thought Vice President Kamala Harris did a great job in the debate against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday night.
Jen Psaki, who used to be the White House press secretary under Joe Biden and is now an MSNBC host, said, “One of the things that struck me about the debate was how she changed the balance of power.”
Psaki was referring to how Harris approached Trump before the debate started to shake his hand. “As soon as she shook his hand, she didn’t just reach out and grab him; she went after him. It’s interesting that he never really got back in charge of the discussion. For me, it shows how many times she has been undervalued.”
David Axelrod, a former assistant to Obama, said that the debate was like the last scene of the movie A Few Good Men in the courthouse. He compared Harris to Tom Cruise’s character, who puts the colonel on trial by surrounding him.
Van Jones of CNN talked about Harris’s performance in the discussion and said that she “baited” Trump and “whooped” him.
“People want someone to speak out against this bully,” Jones said. “She stood her ground and told him what to do. She threw him a bone and then hit him.”
People also paid close attention to Harris’s body language and facial reactions.
Lena Sisco, a former body language expert for the Department of Defense, said that Harris showed signs of nervousness and fear while trying to “look very strong.”
Sisco said that Harris’s pose with her hand on her chin looked like Steve Jobs’.
“I want to look very important,” she said. “I want to seem very sure of myself. They’ll do this to feel like they’re better than everyone else,” Sisco said. “That’s a fancy sign that says, ‘Pay attention now.’”
