Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, faced with renewed threats of steep tariffs from President-elect Donald Trump, is doing what leftists do best: pointing fingers and playing the victim. While Trump prepares to enforce bold immigration policies and crack down on fentanyl trafficking, Sheinbaum insists her country is off the hook, claiming, “Caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.”
Of course, Trump wasn’t having any of it. He made it crystal clear that Mexico needs to step up or face consequences. “Until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!” Trump declared, vowing to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican imports until Mexico gets serious.
Sheinbaum, desperate to shift blame, pointed to the U.S. asylum process as a root cause, saying many migrants heading north have appointments scheduled through the CBP One app. “They [the U.S.] are the ones inviting them to come to the United States,” she argued, conveniently ignoring the fact that Mexico has done little to curb the flow of caravans in the first place.
She also criticized America’s approach to migration, claiming, “If a percentage of what the United States spends on war were dedicated to peace and development, it would address the underlying causes of migration.” Classic leftist nonsense—lecture America while your own country reaps the benefits of cross-border trade.
As for Trump’s tariffs, Sheinbaum warned that Mexico might retaliate, saying, “One tariff would be followed by another in response, escalating until we risk harming mutual businesses.” But let’s not forget who holds the upper hand here. The U.S. is Mexico’s largest trading partner, and their economy relies heavily on access to American markets.
Sheinbaum’s excuses and Trudeau’s polite platitudes won’t change the fact that Trump means business. Democrats and their globalist allies have spent years allowing weak border policies to spiral into chaos. Now, Trump is stepping back in to clean up their mess with the same no-nonsense approach that Americans voted for.
The left loves to frame Trump’s tariffs and immigration policies as harsh or unfair, but the truth is they’re long overdue. Mexico and Canada have taken advantage of America’s lax enforcement for far too long, and the days of turning a blind eye are over. Trump’s leadership is about putting America First, protecting our borders, and making sure no other country—friend or foe—undermines our sovereignty.
