According to an October Harris Poll/HarrisX poll, former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in a possible 2024 contest.
The survey questioned participants, “If the 2024 presidential election took place today and the candidates were Donald Trump, a Republican, and Joe Biden, a Dem., which one would you vote for
Overall, 45 percent picked Trump, 43 percent said Biden, and 12 percent said they were undecided.
Trump, the obvious frontrunner of the hypothetical Republican race, leads Vice President Kamala Harris by 11 percentage points, or 49 percent to 38 percent, in a hypothetical 2024 contest.

Voters are not enthusiastic about Biden running again, with a majority, 55 percent, having “doubts” about his mental competence. 67 percent of independents, 83 percent of Republicans, and 22 percent of Democrats agree.
Furthermore, the survey found that Trump’s approval ratings on a range of problems in January 2021 were still higher than Biden’s in October 2022.
In January 2021, for example, 56 percent approved of Trump’s management of the economy. In Oct. 2022, only 39% approve of Biden’s economic management. This pattern is continuing in a number of subjects.

The only area where Biden outperforms Trump is in responding to the Chinese coronavirus, but even that advantage is marginal, with 51 percent to 49 percent for Trump.
Furthermore, only 39% approve of Biden’s management of crime, and 35% approve of his handling of inflation.
The poll was conducted among 2,010 registered voters on Oct. 12-13, 2022.
