Because why would they stop? Drilling into mouse skulls and pumping them full of testosterone is apparently the hill the “scientists” at NIH have chosen to die on.
Here’s how this particular experiment works. Researchers surgically remove mouse gonads, inject the animals with testosterone, drill into their skulls, and then decapitate them — all to figure out how to fine-tune hormone therapy for women who want to pretend they’re men. Nearly 10,000 mice get this treatment. NIH’s own policy says it has “no legal obligation to provide funding beyond the ending date of the current budget period.” The obligation ended November 30th, 2025. They cut a brand-new check anyway.
That brings the two-year tab for this single experiment to $1,230,418. For mice. To transition.
Justin Goodman from the White Coat Waste Project — the watchdog group that originally exposed this lunacy — didn’t mince words. “The NIH is openly defying President Trump and blowing up claims from RFK’s team that it had stopped funding transgender animal tests,” he said.
And what did RFK Jr.’s people say when confronted? They tried to blame the whole thing on “an Anthony Fauci grant from 2020 that terminated in 2022.” Cute story — except the study’s results weren’t published until August 2025 and NIH signed off on fresh cash in January 2026. Little Tony Fauci retired to his $5 million mansion three years ago, but his loyalists at NIAID are still running the show. His old shop bankrolled 95% of the $240 million the government has blown creating transgender lab animals. Two hundred and forty million dollars on surgically transitioning mice, rats, and monkeys.
The UC San Diego study isn’t even the craziest one in the pile. University of Michigan experimenters implanted female mice with testosterone pellets to simulate “transgender men,” killed the animals, and then photographed their genitals. In a separate Michigan experiment, they pumped male mice full of estrogen, killed them, and dissected their genitals. Your tax dollars funded mouse genital photography. Sweet dreams tonight.
Then there’s the $1.1 million study — a million bucks — to find out whether female rats juiced on testosterone were more likely to overdose on a party drug “commonly used in the LGBTQ community to induce drug-fueled chemsex.” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) laid the whole thing out during a House hearing literally titled “Transgender Lab Rats and Poisoned Puppies.” Her exact words to her colleagues: “We spent over a million dollars to find out if female rats receiving testosterone therapy were more likely to overdose on a date rape drug.”
Democrats in the room sat there stone-faced and defended every penny of it. That’s the Democratic Party in 2026 for you — they’ll go to war over rat chemsex research but can’t find a dollar for TSA agents.
Meanwhile, four separate NIH grants are flooding male macaque monkeys in Florida with estrogen to model “feminizing hormone therapy” for biological men. Because we apparently don’t have enough data from the thousands of actual human beings already taking these drugs. Nope — we need monkey data too. Ka-ching!
President Trump called this racket out during his address to Congress back in March 2025. “Eight million dollars for making mice transgender,” he said, then paused. “This is real.” CNN rushed to “fact-check” him and called the claim false. Then the receipts showed up and — oops! — humiliating correction time. Forbes tried the same stunt, ran a headline calling it a “DOGE Hoax,” and had to retract the whole thing. These people never learn.
There are currently over two dozen active federal grants funding transgender animal experiments worth a combined $64 million. DOGE has axed nearly $49 billion in federal grants across the board. Kill one of these grants and two more pop up. It’s the most expensive game of whack-a-mole in human history.
These career bureaucrats don’t answer to the president. They don’t answer to you. They answer to each other, and they decided a long time ago that your money belongs to them. Every single program officer who approved that January 16th payment knew the obligation had expired. They did it anyway because they knew nobody would fire them for it.
That needs to change. RFK shouldn’t just cancel the grants this time, he needs to walk into NIH and start handing out pink slips.
