Catherine Herridge is a journalist who has experienced intimidation and the fallout from speaking the truth. Unfortunately, these are realities that many of us will likely discover in the years to come. Herridge’s most recent report is illuminating. And yet, none of the details she learned during her interviews with three former U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents—Mark Jones, Mike Taylor, and Fred Wynn—will be shocking to anybody who has followed the news in any way during the past four years.
Per law, the CBP must obtain a cheek swab sample from the arrested illegal alien and forward it to the FBI for analysis. Considering everything, we can complete the entire procedure in seventy-two hours. When it comes to detecting illegal immigrants, preventing them from committing crimes in the United States, or apprehending them after they have breached the law, the procedure may be quite helpful.
The informants informed Herridge that not only is the DNA collection procedure frequently disregarded, but those who expose it risk harsh consequences. The three informed Herridge that their actions had resulted in grade reductions, desk duty, and the seizure of their service weapons. They no longer have retirement benefits or law enforcement qualifications.
One of them stated, “Basically, the agency’s purpose is to bankrupt you, make you quit, die, or kill yourself.” Herridge even managed to secure a letter attesting to the fact that whistleblowers faced reprisals in this case. They also state that, throughout their whole careers, none of them have ever been subject to disciplinary action.
Wynn informed Herridge that incomplete DNA collection efforts likely led to the sexual assault and death of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother from Maryland. In one instance, there was evidence linking the suspect to a break-in. In addition, it is necessary to inquire as to whether the agency’s disregard for the law contributed to the inability to stop additional killings or smaller offenses carried out by unauthorized immigrants.
Keep in mind that this issue predates both the Biden and Trump administrations, having persisted for at least ten years. However, according to the Daily Mail, House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.)
“Biden, Harris, and DHS Secretary Mayorkas have made it more difficult for DHS law enforcement to carry out its duties and have retaliated against individuals who voice objections rather than empowering Border Patrol agents and other CBP personnel. My Committee’s investigation has also shown that CBP, operating under the Biden-Harris administration, is simply unconcerned with gathering this crucial DNA data and that Americans and vulnerable migrants wind up bearing the brunt of this disregard.”
Even if Donald Trump wins in November, this issue will persist, despite the likelihood of it continuing under a Harris-Walz administration. The agency’s noncompliance with the DNA collection law is not the only problem. The other issue is that employees of a government agency did not desire accountability since they valued their employment so highly and thought that the safety of their fellow citizens was insignificant.
