On Saturday, Trump described overhauling America’s administrative state for a second time during a speech at the CPAC in Dallas, telling attendees that the next President and Congress must “eliminate rogue bureaucrats and expose the deep state.”
President Trump stated at the Conservative Political Action Conference:
“As we make the border secure, another crucial objective for the next President and Congress will be for them to drain the swamp in Washington once and for all by getting rid of rogue bureaucrats and uncovering the deep state. The U.S. Congress should pass unprecedented change that allows the president to fire any federal worker who is corrupt, ineffective, or irrelevant in their work. Have you ever heard something like that? You’re fired!”
Following the latest reports claiming that if he returns to the White House in 2024, Donald Trump will utilize his Schedule F executive order to fire almost 50,000 government employees, Trump’s comments have been made.
Trump confirmed these reports when he mentioned the executive order during a recent speech at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit. The current method of removing a federal bureaucrat from their job takes about five years, according to Trump:
“Our current appeals procedure to remove these employees, who may be bad, and maybe even thieves. You can detect them stealing millions of dollars in cash. You must proceed through a three-stage appeals process that will take, on average, five years in each stage. By then, you’ll have been gone for 15 years; you’ll be out of office.”
The lengthy duration, according to Trump, prevents other politicians from beginning the bureaucracy elimination procedure because it will take longer than their terms in office.
“To fire someone that is performing poorly would take over a decade under the existing framework. Almost all politicians will not begin that process because they know they will be gone,” Trump said.
“You know, a lot of politicians,” he tells me, “they go to Washington, and they’re all set up. But then they get caught up with individuals who say things like, ‘I’ll be here much longer than you will,’ and then the politician starts going around having nice dinners. We can no longer do it that way. It’s time for us to run this nation properly because the deep state is that deep, and it’s time to start cleaning house in Washington, D.C..”
