This week, Ari Melber, host of MSNBC, was shocked when a key witness at Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial backed the former president.
In 2019, Gordon Sondland, who was ambassador to the UN at the time, was one of the main witnesses in Trump’s first impeachment trial. Trump was accused of abusing his power as president by refusing to give military aid to Ukraine until Ukraine investigated Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Sondland’s evidence put Trump and other top government officials in the wrong. But Sondland was fired two days after the Senate found Trump not guilty.
“That shows how badly the Biden-Harris team did their job.”
Sondland still backed Trump even after he was fired. After January 6, though, things changed.
Wednesday, Melber asked Sondland if he still doesn’t agree with Trump.
Sondland replied, “No, I don’t stand by it, and I’ll tell you why. I have lived under the Biden-Harris policies for four years now, and I have to say that they are not only threatening the way of life in our country but also the way of life of our friends.”
After hearing that answer, Melber lost it.
“After January 6, you said “no” for me. Now we’re here, and you’re saying “yes”?” The MSNBC host said.
The answer from Sondland was “absolutely yes.” This shows how badly Biden and Harris have done their job.
Melber was shocked and couldn’t understand why Sondland would back Trump. When Melber brought up the idea that January 6 was a “kind of attack on democracy [that] is bigger than any policy,” Sondland quickly shut that down.
He answered, “I see so many attacks on freedom that dwarf January 6.”
In later parts of the interview, Sondland said again that he is voting for Trump because he thinks the Biden-Harris government has destroyed America.
Sondland first said he would vote for Trump in June, before Biden dropped out of the race. At the time, Sondland said that Trump has the answers to fix an America that has gotten worse under Biden’s regime. Sondland’s opinion seems to have become even stronger since the Democratic Party chose Vice President Kamala Harris as its presidential candidate.
