Trump To Be Interrogated? FBI Looks For Answers

Donald Trump will have a victim interview with agents as part of the FBI’s investigation into the recent attempt on the former president’s life, according to an FBI official during a briefing on Monday.

“Consistent with every other victim interview,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek, who oversees the bureau’s Pittsburgh Field Office, informed reporters ahead of the interview.

“We want to hear his viewpoint on what he saw, and we want to offer victims assistance through our victim services,” Rojek stated. “It is a typical victim interview, just like we would conduct for any other victim of crime under any other conditions, and we aim to gain his viewpoint on what transpired during that occurrence,” Rojek stated.

Rojek’s comments were part of a more comprehensive report that the FBI provided about the status of its investigation into the gunshot that took place on July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old shooter who left one person dead and two gravely injured at the event, is the center of attention for the FBI. A gunshot that touched Trump’s ear rather than his head, missing by millimeters, caused slight damage.

The shooter’s motivation is “still not evident” after more than two weeks, according to FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate, but the investigation “remains urgent and ongoing.”

The behavioral analysis team of the bureau is currently developing a profile of Crooks, according to Rojek, although he stressed that Crooks was a “loner” and “quite brilliant.”

According to Rojek, crooks made 25 gun purchases online starting more than a year ago, in the spring of 2023, crooks made 25 purchases of guns online. According to the FBI agent, Crooks also made six internet transactions connected to chemical precursors, which he used to construct the three explosive devices that authorities discovered in the shooter’s house and car the day of the attempted murder. He continued by saying that Crooks made the purchases using internet aliases.

According to Rojek, the FBI has sent legal demands to 86 distinct businesses for various accounts connected to Crooks in an effort to get his information and material from those accounts.

The 20-year-old’s actions showed “careful preparation” prior to the demonstration, according to Rojek, who added, “We believe the subject took substantial steps to hide his activities, even if the FBI inquiry may not have found a purpose.”

Around the fall of 2023, Crooks’ pastime of shooting turned into “official firearms training sessions,” according to Rojek. He added that the foldable stock on the AR-15 rifle he used at the rally helped make weapons more portable.

Last week, FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed one piece of information that provided at least some background on Crooks’ motivations: On Google, Crooks looked up Lee Harvey Oswald’s distance from the scene of President John F. Kennedy’s shooting on July 6, the day he registered to attend the Trump event.

Apart from that, according to Rojek, Crooks also searched the internet for information on improvised explosive devices, power plants, mass shootings, and the murder attempt on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico earlier this year.

The interview that FBI agents have with Trump will be an addition to the more than 450 interviews that investigators have already done. They have spoken with coworkers, previous professors, and classmates, as well as Crooks’s parents, whom Rojek described as “very helpful.”

Rojek stated that there is still no proof that Crooks collaborated with anyone or received assistance from anyone, despite the FBI’s intense effort to find out if he had any accomplices.

Investigators have found “just a handful of persons who we would term his pals, and most of those relationships were, in fact, dated,” according to the special agent in charge.

“We observe very little social engagement, even on his gaming platforms, which is certainly beyond the norm of what you generally see, particularly among gamers,” Rojek stated.
