The mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, appeared on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson to discuss his city’s incredible progress. Miami has seen a multi-decade fall in homicides and is on pace to have the lowest crime rate since the 1930s.
What precisely do you do in Miami that other American cities do not? After a nearly three-year national campaign by progressive Democrats to “defund the cops,” Tucker questioned, adding that many American communities appear to be “coming apart.”
Suarez stated, “We really raised resources for the police. As a result, we currently have the most police officers in our history. In addition, we have cut taxes to the lowest level ever seen, which has stimulated enormous development. We expanded 12%. That is, in my opinion, the second-highest number in historical records. 1.4% of people are unemployed.”
He said, “We’re the healthiest city in America and the happiest city in America. So it turns out that individuals are not inclined to commit murder if they are healthy, happy, employed, not paying a lot in taxes, and witness an increase in police presence. Thus, the Miami miracle narrative has been told, which stands in stark contrast to the Washington nightmare story.”
“Incredible,” Tucker said. “There is no hiding how many murders you have; murders are the one thing that’s very straightforward to quantify. It is, therefore, a very wonderful story.”
Democrats have a reputation for being soft on crime, but party officials are now attempting to project the impression that they are hardening their position in reaction to the increase in violent crime and mass shootings throughout the nation.
However, Americans are aware that gun control is the Democrats’ top objective, not reducing crime.
According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 56% of potential voters think the Democrats are more concerned with gun control than they are with reducing crime. Only 32% of respondents claimed to think the contrary is true.
