Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Rubio made it clear that Trump isn’t abandoning Ukraine—he’s saving America from another endless war that has already siphoned away billions in taxpayer dollars. He pointed out the hypocrisy of the media and the Washington elites, who suddenly seem to think peace is a bad idea just because Trump is the one advocating for it. If Biden had called for a ceasefire and negotiations, the media would be treating him like a hero. But since it’s Trump, they’re clutching their pearls.
Rubio’s defense comes after Trump’s fiery showdown with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last week. Zelenskyy, expecting another blank check from Washington, was instead met with the harsh reality that America’s days of being Ukraine’s personal piggy bank are over. The meeting ended in a heated exchange, with Trump making it clear that Ukraine doesn’t have the leverage to continue this war on its own. The neocons in Washington might not like it, but the truth is that Ukraine’s survival is entirely dependent on American funding, and Trump isn’t interested in pouring more money into a losing battle.
After the meeting, Trump took to Truth Social and made it clear that Zelenskyy isn’t serious about peace. He called out the Ukrainian leader for disrespecting the United States and insisted that until he’s ready to negotiate, there’s no point in another meeting. Trump doesn’t want an advantage for one side or the other—he wants peace. That simple fact is driving the war hawks in Washington absolutely insane.
For years, Ukraine has had a guaranteed pipeline of cash from U.S. taxpayers, with no accountability and no clear strategy beyond just dragging the war out indefinitely. The military-industrial complex has been laughing all the way to the bank, raking in profits while Americans struggle with inflation and skyrocketing costs at home. The Biden administration was all too happy to play along, treating Zelenskyy like royalty and pouring over $113 billion into a war that has only made Russia stronger and Ukraine weaker.
Now Trump is calling their bluff, and they’re panicking. The establishment in both parties has spent years feeding the public the lie that Ukraine can win this war if only we send them more money, more weapons, and more American involvement.
