Former President Trump has not yet said whether he will run for president in 2024, but that has not stopped his campaign from raking in a huge fundraising haul. Trump now has an impressive and record breaking $102 million war chest going into the midterms and the upcoming 2024 election, new federal finance filings reveal.
Trump’s committees brought in $82 million during the first part of 2021, and have $102 million total in the bank, as revealed by federal documents. Trump, who was expelled from all social media websites, raised almost as much as Republicans and Democrats in the initial six months of 2021.
According to FEC records, the DNC brought in $87.1 million in the first part of 2021, as revealed by Open Secrets, a research organization that tracks funds in American politics. The RNC reportedly raising $85 million from January 1st of this year to June 30.
“Trump-connected groups have raked in over $56m on the online GOP fundraising platform WinRed, leapfrogging the RNC ($19m) and the GOP House and Senate committees combined ($23m raised by the National GOP Senatorial Committee and $26m brought in by the National Republican Congressional Committee),” it was reported by the Financial Times.
This stockpile of funds could be used in the 2022 midterms to help Republicans or help America First-friendly Republican candidates primary anti-Trump Republicans, such as Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), who Trump vowed to work against. The GOP members desperately want to take back the Senate and the House from Democrats during the midterms, and would likely look to Donald Trump to turn as many of them to Republicans as possible.
In regard to Trump seeking office in 2024, Trump had meetings recently with “cabinet members” in New Jersey, according to Mark Meadows, who is the former chief of staff for Trump. Meadows made the comments on Friday during an interview with Newsmax.
“We met with many of our cabinet members,” Meadows said. “We actually had a discussion with some of our fellow cabinet members. We are looking at what happens next.”
