According to a recent poll, three-fourths of Americans think the country is on the wrong track.
According to the poll from NBC News, 75% of Americans believe the nation is “off on the wrong track,” while just 16% think it’s “headed in the right direction.” The survey of 1,000 American adults was conducted between May 5 and 7.
The percentage of people who believe the country is on the wrong track has reached an all-time high, with more than 70 percent believing it to be so. The “wrong track” number in this survey was 75 percent, which is just the fifth time in 34 years that it has hit 75%. It was at that level during the Great Recession in 2008 and again during the 2013 government shutdown.
“It’s a blazing red light if you see a number like that,” Republican pollster Bill McInturff said. In conjunction with Democratic polling firm Hart Research Associates, Public Opinion Strategies conducted the survey for NBC News.
“Americans have told us this is as bad as it was in 2008,” McInturff added.
Joe Biden’s job approval rating plummeted to 39 percent in NBC News’ survey, with 56% disapproval, the lowest-ever result for him.
Not only did Biden’s favorability numbers drop dramatically across the board, his ratings on individual topics were even lower: just 33% of Americans approved of Biden’s economic policies, while 62% disapproved; just 23% approved of Biden’s handling on the cost of living, while 71% disagreed; just 34% approved of Biden’s border security efforts, compared to 58 percent who disapproved; and 43% of adults gave him a thumbs-up for his Ukraine intervention.
Outside of Biden’s poor popularity, the Democratic Party as a whole also trailed the GOP in terms of overall approval ratings. Adults had a negative view of the Dems, with 50% viewing them unfavorably and 31% favorably. Meanwhile, 46 percent of adults had a bad opinion about the Republican party, while 35 percent had a good one. However, when it came to which party they wanted to win control over Congress, Americans were split: 46% favored the Democrats and 46% preferred the Republicans.
Inflation and the economy remained by far the most important issues for Americans going into the 2022 midterms, according to polling. As part of a national poll, NBC News asked respondents to rank what they considered to be the country’s most pressing issue. The first choice of 22% of adults was “cost of living,” which was chosen by 18% of individuals. “Voting rights and election integrity” ranked as the top concern for 12 percent of voters, while 10% chose “Abortion.”
The poll from NBC News is the latest indication that Biden and the Democratic Party are in serious jeopardy ahead of the congressional elections. Inflation continues to be a major concern for Americans, with 94 percent expressing worry about it in an ABC News/Washington Post poll that was conducted earlier this month. Wade would be repealed does not help Democrats in the midterm elections.
