The DACA program, which has permitted almost 800,000 illegal immigrants to stay in the US, has been codified as a federal statute by President Joe Biden’s DHS.
Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of DHS, urged Congress to enact an amnesty for illegal aliens enrolled in and eligible for DACA, saying in a statement, “Thanks to DACA, we have been enriched by young individuals who offer so much to our nation and communities.”
The Biden White House is trying to sidestep legal challenges to DACA made by elected the GOP over the years by implementing the regulation.
DACA will keep the same qualifying requirements when it becomes a federal rule, allowing young illegal immigrants who can show they entered the country before June 2007 to get two-year work permits along with deferred deportation.
The regulation will become operative on October 31.
As reporters revealed, the Obama administration’s rules for DACA were so lax that thousands of illegals with a history of violent crime were permitted to enroll in the program and stay in the country.
About 53,792 illegal immigrants received DACA between 2012 and 2018, despite having past criminal histories. The research reveals that over 8,000 illegal immigrants who received DACA subsequently faced criminal charges.
Despite having previously been detained for rape, DACA status was granted to more than 30 illegal immigrants. Similarly, DACA was granted to 95 illegal immigrants who had been arrested for abduction and ten illegal immigrants who had been arrested for murder.
Biden commemorated DACA’s tenth anniversary in June.
According to Biden, “These young individuals contribute to our city in both great and little ways. Dreamers are our neighbors and friends; they identify as Americans in all respects other than legally. It is time to provide them the long-term security they deserve.”
