Two of former President Donald Trump’s closest allies said on Wednesday, the day after Trump started his 2024 presidential campaign, that they will not back him.
Stephen Schwarzman, a billionaire businessman, declared in an early Wednesday statement that he will not support Trump in the Republican Party’s presidential primaries.
“America performs better when its leaders are grounded in today and tomorrow, rather than yesterday and today,” Schwarzman said. “It’s really time for the Republican Party to select a brand-new generation of leaders, and I plan to back one of them during the presidential primary.”
Later that day, Ronald Lauder, the billionaire heir to the Estée Lauder fortune, declared via a representative that he wouldn’t back Trump’s new presidential candidacy.
The representative did not specify who Lauder will support in 2024, although according to CNBC, he has previously supported Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Citadel creator Ken Griffin, a GOP megadonor worth around $30 billion, recently slammed the former president, stating, “I would like to think that perhaps the Republican party is prepared to move on from someone who has been a three-time failure for their party.”
Griffin has contributed millions to DeSantis’ political campaign and has stated that DeSantis will “run on a record of just tremendous accomplishment.”
Griffin expressed his anger with the woke brainwashing that is occurring in so many schools around the nation and added that if DeSantis runs for office, he will support him.
The hedge fund Founder, who is worth about $30 billion, recently relocated his firm from Chicago to Florida for motives apart from tax advantages.
“It’s going to get me kicked out, but taxes weren’t a factor in our decision to move to Florida,” Griffin stated this week. “When you have outstanding schools, a beautiful atmosphere, and streets that are clean and safe you have a place you desire to live and call home. There’s something really remarkable about Florida’s government and its emphasis on bringing traditional family values to the community.”
Griffin notably talked about the effect the schools had on his kids in Chicago and the way he has seen his children excel in Florida’s education system.
