Pro-Life Republicans Have Finally Had Enough

Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, the most powerful pro-life group, asked Republican presidential contenders to back a government prohibition on abortion if they wanted to get their support.

“It is a possibility that the SBA would support a candidate, but it is likewise possible that we wouldn’t. We have a very clear line that remains unchanged, and you have to express your federal bare minimum standards,” SBA President Marjorie Dannenfelser stated on a press call this week. She additionally stated that candidates must explain how they plan to “rein in the extremes of the state of California, the state of Illinois, as well as New York—abortion up to full term.”

Dannenfelser said that politicians have “a lot of fear” because, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, “their actions are no longer just words on a page.”

“It does make sense,” she added, “that there are fits and starts when considering that it takes some time for an agreement to emerge after 50 years of a status quo that prevented the democratic process from determining what our legislation on abortion ought to be. Even though we dislike it, it does make sense that many of the candidates are afraid… Now, what they are doing is not just a theory. They may be used right away and practically.”

Even though people are afraid, Dannenfelser claimed that Republican candidates need to go on the offensive when it pertains to abortion. They need to show that the unborn babies are people as well “not an appendix that should be pulled out and thrown away,” he said.

She said, “Politics focuses on two things: contrast and the strength of that contrast where it’s clear. When these two things come together or are true, the pro-life side will win.”

When questioned about the “slippery slope” justification that some Republicans use to justify enacting government limitations on abortion, Dannenfelser pointed out that Democrats have already begun moving in the other way to enact the radical Women’s Wellness Protection Act.

Dannenfelser said, “We can’t just give up and leave the field. That gives them the chance to pass a law that will get rid of every pro-life safeguard across the country.”
