Push for Charlie Kirk Holiday Gains Momentum in States

In times like these, when truth is under attack and young minds are being led astray, it is more important than ever to honor the voices that stood strong for what is right. One such voice was Charlie Kirk, a brave American who gave his life standing up for free speech, Christian values, and the truth about our country’s founding principles. Now, Students for Life of America (SFLA) is pushing to make his birthday a national holiday. They want to call it “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day,” and it’s a cause that every American who values liberty should support.

Kristan Hawkins, the president of SFLA, knows firsthand what it’s like to fight for the truth on college campuses. She and her organization work with over 1,600 student groups across the country. These young people stand up for life, speak out against abortion, and promote Christian values even when it’s unpopular. They rely on their First Amendment rights—freedom of speech and freedom of religion—to do this work. But in today’s politically correct culture, those rights are often under attack.

Charlie Kirk understood this better than most. He traveled from campus to campus, debating students and challenging the lies of modern-day leftist ideologies. He talked about gender confusion, the value of life, the importance of faith, and the greatness of America. His boldness made him a target, and tragically, he was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University. His death shocked the nation, but his message lives on.

Turning Point USA, the organization Charlie founded, continues to grow. More young people are waking up and realizing that they’ve been fed lies by the media, their professors, and even by some of their own leaders. They are ready to stand for truth, and Charlie’s example gives them strength.

It is only right that our nation honors Charlie Kirk with a national holiday. “Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day” would remind every American, especially young people, that we do not have to agree with each other to value the right to speak freely. As Hawkins said, “Even if you disagree with others on a college campus or in the workplace, as Americans, we all value the First Amendment.” That is the heart of what makes our nation free.

Already, six states—North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Arizona, and West Virginia—have taken steps to support this holiday. These are states that still understand the value of tradition and the need to protect our freedoms. But getting a federal holiday passed is harder. The political climate in Washington remains tense. Despite President Trump working to restore law and order and defend American values, there is still resistance from those who want to tear down everything we hold dear.

But we must not give up. The fight for free speech, for life, and for truth is not just a political fight. It is a moral one. Charlie Kirk gave his life for this cause. The least we can do is make sure his name is remembered and his message continues to spread.

Kristan Hawkins and her team are already doing that. They go to campuses every day, just like Charlie did, to speak the truth about abortion and to offer help to women in need. They are doing the work that many adults are too afraid to do. They are following in Charlie’s footsteps, not just with words, but with action.

We must stand with them. We must teach our children to be proud of their country, to speak the truth, and to defend what is right—even when it’s hard. Honoring Charlie Kirk with a national holiday would send a clear message: America still values freedom, life, and the truth.

Let us not forget the cost of silence. Let us remember this young man who refused to be silent. Let us honor his legacy, not just with words, but with action. A national holiday is a good place to start.
