America’s taxpayers are about to get a long-overdue break, and our children a much-needed shield from radical woke ideology. Republicans in Congress, championed by Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, are moving forward with a provision that would block federal funding for child gender transitions, potentially saving the nation a staggering $1.4 billion over the next decade.
Let’s be clear about what’s at stake here. The radical left has pushed transgender ideology into every corner of our society, including our children’s health care. Medicaid, along with the Affordable Care Act and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, has been funding dangerously experimental gender-transition procedures for minors—procedures that include irreversible surgeries and hormone therapies. These treatments are not only ethically questionable; they’re outrageously costly, reaching upwards of $75,000 per child, according to the Human Rights Campaign, a prominent advocacy group for transgender ideology.
Thankfully, President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have stepped up to restore sanity. Trump’s administration commissioned a comprehensive scientific review from the Department of Health and Human Services, which revealed serious medical risks associated with these procedures. Kush Desai, White House spokesman, summed it up best: “President Trump campaigned on restoring the Gold Standard of Science in American health care. That science is now driving commonsense policymaking. Promises made, promises kept.”
It’s important to highlight the fiscal responsibility of this move as well. The House Energy and Commerce Committee, tasked with cutting an astounding $880 billion in spending, has found a commonsense place to start by eliminating taxpayer-funded child gender transitions. This isn’t just moral clarity; it’s fiscal discipline.
The public overwhelmingly supports this move. According to a recent American Principles Project survey, 66% of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of gender-transition procedures. Even the often left-leaning Associated Press found that a majority of Americans—53%—oppose taxpayer dollars funding puberty blockers and hormone therapy for minors. Public opinion is clear: Americans reject using their hard-earned money to fund radical experiments on children.
Rep. Crenshaw’s provision, aptly titled the “Do No Harm in Medicaid Act,” embodies the basic medical principle that has guided doctors for centuries—first, do no harm. Crenshaw himself noted proudly on social media, “Optimistically, maybe the Left finally came around to common sense. More realistically? They were too afraid to touch it—realizing they’d gone too far.”
And make no mistake, this isn’t just symbolism or empty political theater. This provision is expected to pass both the House and Senate and land on President Trump’s desk for signature. Crenshaw confidently said, “I think it will pass the House. I think it will pass the Senate. I think President Trump will sign it into law. This is a huge win. You’ve got to protect these kids—the science is clear at this point.”
But there’s more to do. Critics rightly point out that 18- to 20-year-olds would still be eligible for taxpayer-funded transitions under Medicaid. Gender clinics could simply advise confused teens to wait until their eighteenth birthday to exploit taxpayer-funded treatments. Conservatives must remain vigilant and push for further protections to ensure taxpayer dollars never subsidize these harmful practices, regardless of age.
It’s heartening to see Republicans, under President Trump’s resolute leadership, finally pushing back decisively against radical left-wing ideology. For years, Biden and his radical allies allowed activists to dictate public health policy at the expense of America’s children and taxpayers. Now, conservatives are restoring common sense, fiscal responsibility, and scientific rigor to American health care policy.
This provision is more than a budgetary victory; it’s a moral imperative. Protecting our children from irreversible harm and shielding taxpayers from funding radical experiments is the very definition of America First governance. Republicans in Congress and President Trump deserve our gratitude and our unwavering support in this crucial fight.
