Rob Reiner made one of the most ironic statements he has ever made when he said that “democracy” can only live if former President Trump is locked up and no third-party contenders are allowed to run.
Rob Reiner, one of Hollywood’s greatest supporters of Joe Biden, made his ridiculous claim in a recent post on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter.
Some well-known people have pointed out that Reiner’s call to ban all alternative candidates has emerged as anti-democratic and could only be beneficial to Biden.
Glenn Greenwald, an independent writer, said Reiner’s words show how Democrats understand “democracy” by putting their opponents in jail and taking them off the ballot.
Mollie Hemingway of the Federalist noted that taking names off the ballot would be considered “the same as stopping the elections in 2024.”
Reiner is still one of Hollywood’s biggest supporters of Biden. He helped raise money for Biden’s 2020 campaign and recently said that Biden is the greatest president ever since Lyndon B. Johnson.
But as Biden’s poll numbers keep going down and his own party seems to be turning against him, Reiner’s social media support has become progressively stronger and less based on facts.
Following his dissemination of false information on January 6 prisoner and also Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who was given a 22-year jail term this week, Reiner was subjected to a fact check via “Community Notes” on X.
Reiner falsely reported that Tarrio “violently stormed” the United States Capitol on Jan. 6 (Tarrio was not even in Washington, D.C. at the time).
Reiner issued a warning prior to the 2022 midterm elections, stating that the results may put a stop to all future elections in the U.S. unless Democrats were able to hold the House of Representatives and increase their majority in the Senate.
He yelled on MSNBC, “Republicans only care about power. And they will do whatever it takes to get power. And they are ready to kill, actually kill, in order to gain power. You can’t talk to them.”
