After months of laying low following her historic political flop, former Vice President Kamala Harris is reemerging—but not to apologize for the Biden-Harris catastrophe. Instead, she’s cashing in.
Harris is slated to co-host a lavish Democrat fundraiser in New York on May 6, alongside new DNC Chair Ken Martin. According to The New York Times, the “discussion-based” event will offer two tiers of admission: one for $25,000 called “building the opposition,” and a second for $44,300 dubbed “fighting for the future.” Yes, that’s right—nearly 45 grand to hear Kamala Harris talk politics again. Because nothing says “party of the people” like dropping a year’s salary on a Manhattan soirée.
Since her defeat in the 2024 election at the hands of President Donald J. Trump, Harris has been mostly absent from public life, a fact even the Democrats seem grateful for. Her few public outings—including a carefully choreographed appearance at the NAACP Image Awards in February—have been more about damage control than inspiration. There, she blamed Trump for everything from forest fires to democracy collapsing, while conveniently ignoring her own administration’s failures.
“Some look at this moment and rightly feel the weight of history,” she said, in her usual vague, grandiose tone. “We know exactly what to do… we’ve done it before.” Done what before, exactly? Lose elections while torching the economy and the border?
Harris also popped up at a Black women’s leadership event in California this month, where she tried her hand at humor. “I’m not here to say I told you so,” she said, laughing along with a crowd seemingly more interested in flattery than facts. One has to wonder: what exactly did she “tell us” other than gaslighting the nation for four years about how great things supposedly were?
Now, Harris is reportedly exploring a gubernatorial run in California—a state already circling the drain thanks to progressive policies she helped champion. According to insiders, she’s giving herself until the end of the summer to decide. And why not? The California machine that spawned her is desperate to keep her relevant, no matter how many times voters reject her nationally.
And the whispers of a 2028 presidential bid haven’t gone away. Despite being rejected soundly in 2020 and being part of a ticket that was defeated in 2024, she somehow remains a top contender in early Democratic primary polling. That alone tells you everything you need to know about the state of the Democratic Party.
Yet the real threat to her supposed frontrunner status may not be Donald Trump—it’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. As progressive activists jockey for control over the next generation of the Democrat base, some insiders believe AOC is the one to watch in 2028, with Kamala playing the role of yesterday’s news.
One thing is clear: while Kamala Harris may have faded from the spotlight, her ambition is alive and well—and the Democrat elites are still willing to write fat checks to keep her in the game.
But the American people have seen this act before. And come 2028, they’ll be ready to pull the curtain once and for all.
