After the second attempt on the life of former President Trump, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) stated that some politicians are suspicious of a possible spy in the U.S. Secret Service.
After the second attempt on Trump’s life, host Mike Slater said that the “aura of power of the Secret Service” is fading. This could mean that more people with bad intentions try to kill the former president.
“That’s a good point. It seems easier for bad actors to target people,” Gaetz said, adding that some of his coworkers think there is something more sinister going on in the Secret Service.
“My very smart coworkers say they can’t rule that out because of some of the oddities and the way the facts fit together. I haven’t seen any proof of that myself.”
More likely, Gaetz said, “there is such a dislike for Trump and a desire to bring him down within some of these agencies that they don’t mind giving him less protection or not having a bunch of strong men around him who look like they can do things because, in their hearts, they don’t like Trump.”
Gaetz also said that they “do not care much about safety and security, and I think that lack of care is what has caused that situation.”
Gaetz said it would be very scary if they found out that the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was “receiving communications or motivation or funds from foreign forces.”
“That worries me a lot. A Homeland Security agent came to my office days before the attempted murder to tell me about a Ukrainian kill team working in the country. Then this guy shows up, “wrapped in the Ukrainian flag,” shooting at Trump National Executive Office. Those things worry me. We need to look into those links,” he said.
“And I think it’s more likely than not that this shooter had friends in other countries who helped him pay for some part of his plan.”
