This week, a grand jury in Georgia brought ten charges against former President Trump as part of the investigation by Fulton County DA Fani Willis.
Update: The 98-page accusation said that Trump along with 18 other people were also being charged.
Mark Meadows, Former Chief of Staff at the White House, former Georgia GOP Chairman David Shafer, as well as former Republican Mayor of NY City Rudy Giuliani (R) are all on the list of people who have been charged. Trump’s co-defendants had also been charged.
The grand jury met for about ten hours and heard evidence. This week, they decided on whether or not to bring charges. Fulton County Superior Court Justice Robert McBurney signed off on the charges against them.
The grand jury was supposed to meet until this week, but the New York Post said that it completed its work faster than expected. It continues to be unclear exactly what charges were made against the former president as well as who else might be named in the charges.
The clerk said that “worst case scenario,” the charges would be unsealed and released to the public within three hours. After the clerk’s office processes the charges, Wills’s office said it would hold a press briefing.
Willis has been looking into whether Trump tried to change the results of the 2020 election in Georgia for almost three years. This week, she plans to put several people before the grand jury. This news came out this week.
In a statement released soon after the charges came out, the Trump campaign labeled Willis a “rabid partisan who has been campaigning while raising money on an agenda of prosecuting President Trump by means of these bogus indictments.”
“Taking a page out of Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has purposefully slowed down her investigation in an attempt to have the most impact on the presidential race of 2024 and hurt the Trump campaign, which is currently in the lead. All of these dirty Democratic plans will fail,” said the statement.
The Trump campaign said that the “Biden-Smith goon squads” were “deliberately slow-walking investigations” and that the charges were coming so close to the scheduled 2024 election for “election interference purposes.”
“The double standards in the law that are used against President Trump has to stop. Through the Crooked Biden Cartel, Democrats don’t have to follow any rules, but Republicans who use their First Amendment rights could be charged with a crime.”
