A violent attack that left a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer battling for his life and seriously injured another police officer resulted in the arrest of a DNC delegate.
Officer Travis Brown was shoved to the ground last Friday while trying to make an arrest for property damage near the police station during a demonstration commemorating the tenth anniversary of the tragic death of young criminal Michael Brown. He struck his head and had brain damage; as a result, his condition is severe.
Keith Rose is an anti-cop activist and part of the St. Louis Civilian Oversight Board, which is responsible for investigating claims of police wrongdoing, was among those detained. Ten days before the DNC’s formal coronation of Kamala Harris, Rose was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
After learning that Keith Rose was one of the people taken into prison, the Missouri Dem Party released a statement, saying that he had made the decision to voluntarily step down from his position as an uncommitted alternative delegate to the DNC. “In accordance with Party regulations, the Missouri Democratic Party has replaced Mr. Rose with another uncommitted person from the region.”
The newly released bodycam footage from Ferguson Police depicts the altercation that resulted in Brown’s injuries.
The video purports to show Elijah Gantt, 28, striking Brown as a crowd attempted to topple a perimeter fence. Gantt strikes the police and knocks him to the pavement, seemingly with a running start.
On Tuesday, Troy Doyle, the chief of police in Ferguson, stated, “I think it’s strong evidence that this man charged and hit my officer hard.” Watch the video; the police are waiting to apprehend this man as he stands up. The man tackled my partner as if he were a football player.
During a press conference on Saturday, Chief Doyle stated, “Travis Brown came into this position because he was motivated to do the right thing.” “He wanted to be a part of the shift. He aspired to make a significant impact on our neighborhood. We want an officer like him in our neighborhood. And after that, what happens? He is attacked. I had to tell his mother what had happened to her son, looking her in the eye.
According to reports, the cop suffered brain damage that may be fatal.
Although his client’s bond restrictions prevent him from discussing the issue, Rose’s lawyer, Javad Khazaeli, said to FOX 2 that he did not believe the allegations were valid.
“Photos demonstrate that Mr. Rose was not responsible for the fence’s damage. We don’t understand the charges against him. Ferguson has attempted to accuse him of causing property damage twice already; the first instance was his use of Crayola chalk on a pavement. Our prayers are with the injured officer, and we are certain that we will win again as we did the last time,” the attorney stated in a statement to the publication.
Rose told the St. Louis Post Dispatch, “I am prepared to defend myself against this claim, but I am quite certain that the prosecution will withdraw the case against me once they evaluate all of the evidence.”
“Travis is a dedicated father, son, brother and friend in addition to being a police officer. He is a person of unwavering faith, with a heart as large as his grin and an infectiously cheerful attitude. In addition, TJ enjoys being an athlete, an explorer, a movie buff, and many other things. Officer Brown’s family released a statement saying, “We know he is motivated to continue living life to his fullest once he has healed.”
