During a Newsmax TV interview that aired this week, former President Trump criticized the testimony of Cassidy Hutchinson’s before the House Select Committee on the U.S. Capitol Riot of January 6, 2021.
Donald Trump slammed Hutchinson’s account as “totally ridiculous.” He said she was “living in a fantasy world.”
“It was completely insane to me,” Trump told Newsmax host Rob Finnerty. “This committee is, many people claim, illegally established. But when you examine what they are doing and saying, the good news is that many people are not even watching it or listening to it, but they are trying to do serious harm.”
“This woman yesterday was something wrong with her? Is there anything wrong? She said I leaped out of a vehicle and started strangling a certain Secret Service agent who is a person I know well? I grabbed a steering wheel of a car? [She] said I wanted weapons at my rally? I didn’t want weapons. So I have to speak. I don’t want weapons for anybody.”
He also cited the Secret Service’s denial of Hutchinson’s account of him punching Bobby Engel and attempting to take control of the presidential motorcade.
“The woman is living in a dream world,” he emphasized. “She is a social climber — if you want to call it that. It’s a shame that this country is going through this turmoil and we don’t have any GOP members up there to debate it. We have one who has quit, Kinzinger; we also have another down by 35 points in Wyoming. She’s a disaster on wheels. She’s an accident waiting to happen. But consider this: there are no opposing voices.”
“I think [Hutchinson] has some real difficulties, to put it another way,” Trump stated. “Mental issues.”
