Virginia Elects Controversial Leader Amidst Disturbing Revelations

Something troubling happened in Virginia this week. Democrat Jay Jones won the race for Attorney General, defeating Republican Jason Miyares. It was a close race — very close — but in the end, Jones pulled ahead with just over 52 percent of the vote. This means a man who once fantasized in text messages about a Republican leader and his children being murdered will now serve as the chief law enforcement officer in the state.

Let that sink in.

Jay Jones didn’t just make a bad joke or say something careless. He sent messages in 2022 imagining violence against Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his family. And after those messages came to light, instead of doing the right thing and stepping down, Jones stayed in the race. Even worse, his fellow Democrats refused to hold him accountable. They didn’t withdraw their support. They didn’t condemn his words. They acted as if it didn’t matter — as if violent fantasies about political opponents are just part of the game now.

This is not the America our fathers and grandfathers built. This is not how a serious nation behaves. The Attorney General is not just another politician. He is the top law enforcement officer in the state. He is supposed to be fair, strong, and above all, honorable. He must protect the people — not threaten them, even in private.

Former Attorney General Jason Miyares said it best: “The Attorney General is Virginia’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer. That authority must always be exercised with neutrality, integrity, and character.” And he’s right. Miyares has walked alongside grieving families. He understands that violence is not a joke, not a fantasy, and definitely not a political weapon. Miyares served his state with honor, and President Trump was right to endorse him.

But Democrats, led by people like Abigail Spanberger, chose politics over principle. Even after the horrifying messages came to public attention, Spanberger refused to pull her endorsement of Jones. She won her race for governor by a wide margin, but that victory feels hollow. When our leaders cannot draw a line against violent speech — especially from their own side — we are in dangerous territory.

We must ask: What kind of example does this set for our children? What kind of future are we building when character no longer matters? If a man can threaten his political enemies in writing, and still be elected to the highest law enforcement office in the state, what does that say about our moral compass?

The left used to talk about civility. They used to say that words matter. But now, when someone on their team crosses the line, they look the other way. They protect their own, no matter what. And that is not justice. That is not leadership. That is corruption.

This election result is more than just a loss for Republicans. It is a warning to all Americans. We are in a battle for the soul of this nation. The left is willing to excuse anything — even violent speech — if it helps them win. And if we do not stand up, speak out, and return to the values that built this country — faith, family, honesty, and law and order — we may lose more than just elections. We may lose the very foundation of our Republic.

It is clear that now, more than ever, we need strong, moral leaders. We need citizens who will not accept this kind of behavior. We need to return to a time when character counted — when men and women in public service were expected to be examples of decency.

We must pray for Virginia. We must pray for our country. And we must never stop fighting for what is right.
