New Governor Poll Has Democrats Confused And Nervous

According to a recent poll, nine of the top ten most popular governors in the country are Republicans.

Based on surveys of registered voters from each state gathered between July 1 and September 30, the Morning Consult Political Intel poll, which was released on Tuesday, showed the results.

With a 74% popularity rating, Republican Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts was named the most popular governor in the country. Gov. Phil Scott of Vermont came in second with 73%, and Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland came in third with 70%.

Only Andy Beshear of Kentucky was included in the list of the top ten most popular governors among Democrats. In the Bluegrass State, he had a ranking of 59%, good for ninth place in the yearly standings.

Additional Republican governors in the top ten list included Chris Sununu of NH, Doug Burgum of ND, Mark Gordon of Wyoming, Jim Justice of WV, Kay Ivey of AL, and Brad Little of Idaho (10).

With just 40% support from her state’s registered voters, Democratic Governor of Oregon Kate Brown had the unfavorable position of least popular on the list. She came in barely behind Republican Governor Doug Ducey of Arizona, who received 42% of the vote.

According to reports, most Americans continue to support their governors. Just eight of the 50 state governors’ approval ratings were lower than 50%.

There were a few surprising shocks in the rankings. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican Governor of Virginia who took office amid considerable controversy the year before, had a 55% popularity rating after one year in office.

Following a poor performance during the COVID epidemic due to her strict lockdown regulations, Michigan Dem Governor Gretchen Whitmer increased her prior rating by 11 percentage points. Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Governor of California, has a 55% approval rating barely one year after soundly surviving a recall vote in his state.

Ron DeSantis, a Republican Governor of Florida, received 53% of the vote. Despite being 12 percentage points higher than last year as he competes for reelection against Gov. Charles Crist, the number is lower than some had anticipated because of his soaring national popularity during the epidemic.
