Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer misrepresented pistol-braced weapons in a news release issued by Gun Owners of America by claiming that they convert handguns into machineguns.
This law, which became operative on June 1st, outlawed the holding of handguns with attached stabilizing braces that had previously been legally held but had not been registered. A maximum ten-year jail penalty may be imposed on anyone who is caught in possession of an unregistered braced handgun. Only if they are protected by one of five federal court injunctions, like Texas & GOA v. ATF, may they avoid such punishments. According to research, there are presently over 40,000,000 braces in use.
Senior Vice President of GOA, Erich Pratt, issued the following statement:
“It is really sad that the Senate agreed with President Biden and cast votes to make the people they represent felons despite widespread grassroots resistance to the rule. Gun Owners of America will carry on their legal battle, where they have already had some significant success. The fight will continue.”
Director of Federal Affairs at GOA, Aidan Johnston continued:
“It is simply ridiculous that an ATF regulation may outlaw 40 million firearms when a similar proposal coming from Congress would never pass the same scrutiny. Instead, senators went with the easy option and voted to support this administration’s unlawful decision to make possessing a piece of plastic illegal.”
A federal judge earlier imposed an injunction prohibiting the regulation from being applied to GOA members and State of Texas workers in a case that Gun Owners of America and the State of Texas filed. The case is still open.
Nevertheless, GOA will never let up on the battle against Gun Control Inc. They are the most seasoned, unyielding gun lobby in the US, and they will fight the gun control advocates wherever they can. We can only hope that additional right-wing groups will follow their lead.
