If Republicans regain control of the House in 2022, former Pres. Donald Trump advised a political gathering on Saturday, they must use Congress’ budget authority to stop Joe Biden’s planned “invasion.”
At a CPAC event in Texas, Trump said, “We must stop the onslaught at our southern border.” He then began describing the answer to Biden’s ongoing campaign to inflate migration numbers above Congress-determined limits of 1990:
“Republicans in Congress must make it clear that under their watch, no federal funds will be sent to Biden’s open border agenda. It is a twisted notion. It’s a sick concept. Makes no sense at all… Next year, if you come into our country unlawfully, you will be apprehended and detained, and we will swiftly return you to the nation from which you came or send you to jail.”
We’ll also need a lot more new ICE and border patrol agents to resume enforcing our immigration laws and removing unlawful immigrants — which Joe Biden won’t even try to remove from the country. In addition, we should make much stiffer penalties for repeat immigration offenders, as there are many.
Mr. Trump repeatedly employed the “invasion” theme as he urged voters to cast ballots for Republicans in November:
“There is another terrible calamity that we must face if we want to restore safety in our nation. We must finally put a halt to the immigration at our southern border, which is an invasion. Our country is being invaded, just like a military force was bored into it.”
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), who is overseeing the Senate GOP’s election effort in 2022, used the same invasion-by-criminals metaphor. They “brought us a deadly invasion of our border, drugs, and criminals daily,” he said, adding:
“A great culture cannot be taken from without until it first destroys itself from within,” wrote historian Will Durant. “Now we are facing the greatest danger we have ever had to face: the militant left-wing in our nation has become an enemy within. They wish to replace freedom with domination, telling us what we can and cannot believe, think, and do.The leaders of government want to completely regulate our lives.”
“This fall, the American people are going to give a comprehensive ass kicking to the Democrats,” he said.
