Trump Says No To Special Investigation Request

Former Pres. Donald Trump slammed AG Merrick Garland’s decision to designate a special counsel to probe him, telling Fox News that he “would not take part” in the investigation.

Garland named John L. Smith as special counsel to probe Trump on Friday. Smith will investigate Trump’s handling of secret papers acquired by the FBI during a raid at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in August and evaluate whether criminal charges should be filed against the former president

During an interview with Fox News Digital on Friday, Trump denounced the special counsel’s appointment as “the worst politicization of justice in our nation.”

Trump highlighted that the latest inquiry came after two “false impeachments” and former special counsel Robert Muller finding no proof of criminal conspiracy or collusion between the Trump team and Russian authorities during the presidential election of 2016.

“I’ve been going through this for the past six years — I’ve been going through this for six years, and I’m not going thru it anymore,” Trump added. “And I m hoping the Republicans have the fortitude to oppose this.”

“I’ve been proven innocent on everything for six years, from false impeachments to Mueller, who discovered no collusion, and now I have to do it again? This is unacceptable. It’s completely unjust. It’s really political,” Trump stated.

“I’m not going to engage,” Trump added. “I’m not going to be a part of this.”

Trump further noted that Garland’s appointment as special counsel came only days after he formally confirmed his presidential candidacy for 2024.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this. They discovered nothing. I make the announcement, and then they assign a special prosecutor. They discovered nothing, and now they’re taking someone who despises Trump,” Trump remarked. “This is a travesty, and it’s only occurring because I lead every poll in both parties.”

“It’s hard to believe they’re permitted to do this. This is the most blatant politicization of justice in our nation,” Trump added.

Trump also chastised President Joe Biden’s Dept. of Justice (DOJ) for conducting a probe into him while remaining mute on the myriad controversies involving Biden and his son, Hunter.

“Hunter Biden is a serial criminal, and yet nothing ever happens to him,” Trump said on Fox News. “Joe Biden is a serial criminal – but nothing happens to them.”

Trump asked Republicans to “stand up and fight” against the designation of a special counsel by the Justice Department.

“It is unjust to the nation and the Republican Establishment, and I do not believe people should tolerate it. I will not tolerate it,” Trump stated. “The Republican Party must take a stand and fight.”
