The United States of America was founded on the values of freedom, justice, and the rule of law. Our nation has always stood tall against tyranny and corruption, whether at home or abroad. Today, those values are being tested once again, this time by the regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela—a corrupt socialist dictator who has turned a once-prosperous country into a failed state riddled with crime, poverty, and despair.
President Trump is taking bold and necessary action to confront this growing threat just south of our border. For too long, the United States turned a blind eye as Venezuela descended into chaos. Under previous administrations, we allowed socialism to spread like a disease in our own backyard. But now, under President Trump’s firm leadership, we are no longer sitting on the sidelines.
The United States military has begun a strategic campaign to disrupt the flow of drugs that are poisoning our communities. These drugs are not just a health crisis—they are a weapon being used against our nation. The Maduro regime has long been involved in the narcotics trade, enabling drug cartels, harboring terrorists, and profiting from pain and addiction in our neighborhoods. Enough is enough.
Former Ambassador John Feeley recently warned that the U.S. could launch Tomahawk cruise missiles into Venezuela. These long-range weapons could strike key targets without putting American boots on the ground. That threat alone sends a clear message to Maduro: the United States will not tolerate a narco-dictatorship on its doorstep.
Already, our military has taken decisive action. Fourteen enemy vessels have been destroyed, and dozens of narco-terrorists have been eliminated. These are not random attacks; they are carefully planned missions to dismantle the drug networks that threaten our homeland. President Trump has made it clear that if necessary, these operations could extend to land targets. Cocaine production facilities and trafficking routes inside Venezuela are not off limits.
Of course, the usual critics are crying foul. The left, as always, is more concerned about international approval than about protecting American lives. They complain that these actions may violate international law, but they seem to forget that Maduro himself has violated every law of humanity. He has stolen elections, silenced dissent, and starved his own people. To claim that we must play by the rules while Maduro breaks them at will is the height of cowardice.
Some experts argue that military action won’t solve the drug problem. But they miss the bigger picture. This is not just about drugs. This is about sovereignty, security, and stopping the spread of socialism. If we allow Maduro to continue unchecked, we risk letting a hostile, criminal regime gain even more power. That is unacceptable.
There are also concerns about what comes next if Maduro falls. Critics say we don’t have a “day after” plan. But let us remember—great nations do not shy away from responsibility just because the road ahead is unclear. We didn’t wait for a perfect plan to defeat the Nazis. We acted because it was right. The same principle applies today.
And let us not forget Colombia. Once a trusted ally, Colombia is now led by President Gustavo Petro, who has shown more loyalty to drug traffickers than to his own people. When a U.S. strike killed a Colombian national involved in narcotics, Petro accused America of murder. President Trump rightly called him what he is—an illegal drug leader—and cut off U.S. aid. We will not bankroll regimes that oppose us.
The truth is simple: the United States must lead. We are not the world’s police, but we are its last line of defense against tyranny. President Trump understands that. The American people understand that. And now, it’s time the world understands it too.
We must stand strong, stand proud, and stand ready. Because freedom is worth fighting for—at home, and abroad.
