These are perilous times. When he requests a budget increase on Thursday, FBI Director Christopher Wray will convey a straightforward message: there is an “elevated threat” to national security and public safety in the United States.
According to FOX News, Wray is scheduled to explain to a House of Representatives subcommittee how America may be endangered by the execution of a coordinated terrorist assault such as the one that claimed many lives at a music venue in Russia last month.
Wray will testify before the House Appropriations panel, saying, “Looking back on my career in law enforcement, I would be hard-pressed to recall a period where so many risks to our public safety and national security were so heightened all at once.” But as I sit here now, it is reality. We cannot afford to relax at this time.”
In order to “tackle these challenges” and keep American residents safe at home as what were previously thought to be global hazards get closer, Wray will contend during the hearing that the government agency needs financial help.
“This is by no means the moment to slow down or back off. Wray will state, “We need all the people, all the tools, and all the resources necessary to fight these threats and to keep Americans safe. This is the time when we need your support the most.”
Wray will state that the FBI’s “urgent fear” is that people will be motivated to carry out terrorist activities in the United States by the continuous war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East.
He will bring up the terrorist attack on the Russia Concert Hall, which was the worst on Russian territory in 20 years and claimed 144 lives, according to Reuters.
“Our main worry has been that lone people or small groups may get distorted inspiration from what is happening in the Middle East and launch assaults here at home.” The possibility of a concerted attack within our borders, similar to the ISIS-K assault that occurred at the Russia Concert Hall a few weeks ago, is becoming more and more worrisome, he would add.
Wray with pressuring Congress to extend a U.S. surveillance program that is about to expire this month, Wray intends to emphasize the program’s importance as a weapon against regional enemies.
According to Breitbart News, lawmakers of both parties expressed worry that the program’s planned revamp did not go far enough in limiting the government’s monitoring capabilities, which led to the House blocking the plan on Wednesday.
There will be disagreements about whether to include a clause requiring federal agents to obtain a warrant before they can continue monitoring US citizens under surveillance by foreign governments.
Wray intends to inform Congress that “it is vital in safeguarding our nation, and we are in crunch time.”
